Biography and Resume

Biography

Nick Reider began studying trumpet at a young age. Like so many students in Carroll County, it all began with a visit to Winfield Elementary School by Bob Coffey and Dave Motter of Coffey music looking for students interested in picking up a musical instrument. Nick was told he had a 'good buzzer' and his long journey with the trumpet began.

At South Carroll High School, Nick began more advanced studies under the tutalage of Brad Collins, and participated in several jazz, orchestral, symphonic, and marching bands. He also began intensifying his private lessons with Bob Coffey, trumpeter and owner of Coffey music--and Nick's instructor from 5th through 12th grade, beginning a professional relationship that remains to this day.

Education

Nick continued his study of the trumpet at Towson University beginning in 1995. His talent was recognized by various state and local agencies, who helped finance his education. He was a recipient of the Towson State University Music Departmental Scholarship, the State Senatorial Scholarship, the Louis Armstrong Jazz Scholarship, and was a Maryland Distinguished Scholar for Talent in the Arts.

While at Towson, Nick learned from various college instructors, including Ray Moore (classical), Phil Snedecor (classical), Luis Engelke (Classical), Bill Warfield (jazz), and Alex Norris (jazz).

During his senior year at Towson, he completed an Educational Psychology research project on 'The Psychology of Music: How Music is Present in All Our Lives.' In addition, Nick began his instructional career in 1998, assisting in instruction at the Towson University Preparatory Department, and assisting as an adjudicator at the local Baltimore Lutheran School. He also began his role as private instructor, using studio space at Coffey music.

In 2000, Nick received his B.S. Degree in Music Education with a concentration in Jazz Performance.
